At the beginning of 2008, Babes-Bolyai University Board of Directors has decided to set up and organize the Asian Studies Departament at the Faculty of Letters, consisting of Japanese Language and Literature, Chinese Language and Literature and Korean Language and Literature program. The department was subsequently named the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures.
